A rare opportunity to spend a weekend in the studio with Jen Hewett, developing block printing on fabric skills, from carving blocks to printing yardage.

Saturday : Design and Carve. With a few simple tools, you will learn how to carve printing blocks and transfer your designs onto fabric.

Sunday : Repeat Patterns and Yardage. Participants will learn how to create three different types of repeat patterns – straight, bricked, and half drop – to block print their own yardage using their block from Saturday. The day will begin with a demonstration of the different repeat pattern types, then students will print their own yardage with guidance from the instructor.

Skills required: All participants in this class must be comfortable with basic math.

Sustenance:  Snack, beverages will be provided each day of the workshop. A locally sourced lunch will be provided on Saturday. On Sunday students can pack a lunch or step out on Warren St. to get one.

Supplies: Ink, inking plates and rollers, and two yards of muslin will be provided. Participants should bring two yards of light-colored fabric in natural fibers as well.

Lodging: If you are traveling from afar and need a place to stay for the weekend, we have a few rooms available on site for an additional $150 - $225.  Email Katharine if you would like to reserve a room.  There are singles and shared rooms available on a first come first served basis.
