In this 2-hour workshop, participants will learn the basics of bundle dyeing with natural materials. We will work with natural dyes including local, everyday dyestuffs like onion and avocado skins and sourced materials like madder root and logwood. Participants will also learn how to choose and prepare textiles for dyeing, how the process of bundle dyeing extracts color from natural materials, and how to fix color to cloth. We will look at my collection of bundle dyed swatches for color inspiration and participants will use the techniques learned in this workshop to create a bundle dyed scarf.

Supplies: All supplies will be provided. This workshop can get messy so wear clothes you don’t mind getting dye on!

Sustenance: Light refreshments will be provided.

Alison Charli Smith a textile artist specializing in natural dyes and sashiko style stitching.  Her creative studio Salt & Still produces handmade goods created with natural plant + insect based dyes and fibers like cotton, linen, silk and wool. All pieces are designed, dyed, and crafted in small batches, making them truly one of a kind. The name Salt & Still is a tribute to water, an ingredient that is elemental to the natural dye process. Inspiration is drawn from the mountains, the sea, traditions both old and new, and the love of natural magic.
